The Advisory Board performs advisory functions aimed at identifying research lines that ensure the intensification of relations with the business world. The advisory role is exercised by members designated by relevance and contiguity with the department's research topics. The activities of the Advisory Board are promoted by the coordinator in close cooperation with the technology transfer commission and the research commission.

Alessandro Balossino è il responsabile dell'unità di ricerca e sviluppo di Argotec, PMI torinese attiva nello sviluppo di microsatelliti ad alte prestazioni e nei servizi per il volo umano spaziale.
In qualità del suo ruolo coordina lo sviluppo di sistemi avionici e nuove tecnologie spaziali a basso TRL, la definizione della roadmap tecnologica dell'azienda, l'identificazione dei partner tecnologici e delle opportunità per la ricerca finanziata.
Prima del ruolo corrente in Argotec, Alessandro si è occupato di sistemi di sistemi per Entry, Descent and Landing, robotica mobile e sensoristica per applicazioni in ambito spazio e difesa.
Alessandro ha ottenuto la laurea magistrale in meccatronica presso il Politecnico di Torino nel 2013.

Mauro Bandinelli was born in Florence, Italy, in 1959.
He received the Electrical Engineering degree (summa cum laude) from the University of Florence, in 1986.
Since 1986, he has been a Researcher at IDS Ingegneria Dei Sistemi S.p.A, working in the field of electromagnetism, especially on antenna and EMC problems.
He has been involved in research activities on asymptotic and numerical techniques.
Currently he is manager of the “Computational Electromagnetic Laboratory” and of “Space Laboratory” in IDS.

Piero COSTA - Polo BioPmed

Ingegnere Biomedico laureato presso il Politecnico di Torino. Inizia la sua carriera nel 2005 come Direttore Tecnico/Operations e Rappresentante della Direzione in un’azienda produttrice di Dispositivi Medici per Ortopedia e Traumatologia e i diversi anni trascorsi nel settore gli hanno permesso di maturare esperienza e conoscenza nella gestione del ciclo di vita dei dispositivi medici e dei requisiti regolamentari applicabili.

Dal 2018 Piero è B.S.I. Tutor e Part Time Lecturer presso il Politecnico di Torino, dove eroga formazione in ambito Dispositivi Medici.

Piero ha gestito e gestisce come coordinatore diversi Progetti di R&S su Dispositivi Medici, collaborando in consorzi con imprese ed enti di ricerca.
Attualmente Vice-Presidente, è stato nel periodo 2018-2021 Presidente del Cluster BioPmed.

Davide CUDA - Google

Davide Cuda graduated from the Politecnico di Torino with 110/110 summa cum laude degree in Telecommunication Engineering in November 2005. In January 2009 he obtained his Ph.D. degree at Politecnico di Torino on resource allocation and fairness schemes in all optical networks and switching architectures. During his Ph. D., he spent an extensive stay at University of California, Davis.
From January 2010 to March 2011 he held a Post Doc position at the Italian National Research Council focusing his research on energy-efficient design of backbone networks and high-capacity switching architectures.
From March 2011 until March 2012 he worked as research engineer at Orange Labs R&D designing all future core networks and datacenter architectures. Davide Cuda is currently a research engineer at Telecom PariTech working on high-capacity scheduling algorithms. He was actively involved and managed several National and European research projects.
In November 2012, he joined Cisco System in Switzerland to work on as a software engineer on IOS platform. He actively contributed on the Medianet Cisco feature and actively proposed new network solutions exploiting SDN technologies (OpenFlow, OnePK, opendaylight controller).
Davide Cuda is currently at Google working as a software reliability engineer.

Enrico Ghillino is the technical lead on photonic circuit modeling and simulation. He helps identifying preferable technical solutions to high profile development tasks across teams, and gives technical advice and helps defining roadmaps.

Luca Maria LACHELLO - COMAU

In COMAU SpA since 1989, he spent 26 years in the Robotics Business Unit where the main achievement was the conception of the 5th Generation of Comau Robot Control Unit, a new RT Operating System, a new Robot Trajectory Planner and an innovative Inverse Kinematics Algorithm developed in collaboration with POLITO were the most remarkable milestones.
He is currently leading the COMAU Digital Factory, an international team of more than 30 engineers that develops according the AGILE methodology the COMAU IIoT platform. In addition, the Digital Factory contribute with its expertise to other Business Segments, such as for Batteries, where the cells formation process and the assembly sequences have to be digitally managed.

Luca MARTINO - Tekfer

Da oltre un decennio, mi occupo della direzione e dell’amministrazione di un gruppo di aziende impegnate nella progettazione e nella produzione di componenti, prodotti e sistemi nel settore ferroviario ed aerospaziale.
La mia sfida è quella di consolidare valide realtà italiane ed accompagnarle sul palcoscenico internazionale con obiettivi di crescita concreti.
Terminati gli studi in Ingegneria Elettronica, dopo un breve periodo in ST Microelectronics, sono entrato nel mondo del lavoro come progettista elettronico presso la IRCI (International Rectifier Corporation Italiana), cimentandomi nello sviluppo di azionamenti ibridi con elettronica integrata, una proposta decisamente innovativa per l’inizio degli anni 2000.
Nel 2003 approdato alla SIA (Società Italiana Avionica), parte di Finmeccanica, entro nel mondo del segnalamento ferroviario per occuparmi di verifica e validazione. Questi anni di intenso lavoro sono stati fondamentali per una crescita sia professionale che individuale che ha rafforzato l’ambizione di spingermi verso un’attività più indipendente in un panorama più internazionale.
Nel 2005, all’ente di certificazione TUV SUD, con sede a Monaco di Baviera, ottengo questa opportunità attraverso un’attività di consulenza in un ambiente stimolante che mi ha permesso di conquistare maggiore autonomia e competenza.
Nel 2007, il mio percorso professionale ha incrociato quello di Tekfer, realtà affermata nell’ambito ferroviario, prima nel ruolo di Direttore Tecnico per poi assumere, dal 2017, il ruolo di CEO.
Nel 2018 ho il piacere di assumere anche la carica di CEO della Neohm Componenti e ritornare al mondo dei semiconduttori e dei circuiti ibridi.
Dal 2020 affronto una nuova promettente esperienza nel mondo aerospaziale, insieme alla giovane e brillante Arc Power, nella Joint Venture Aerospace Power Group.

Davide PANDINI - ST Microelectronics

Advanced CMOS Technology Technical Director and a Fellow of ST Technical Staff
Davide Pandini holds a Laurea Degree (summa cum laude) in Electronics Engineering from the University of Bologna, a PhD in Electronics and Telecommunications from the University of Padova, and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA.
He was a research intern at Philips Research Labs. in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, and at Digital Equipment Corp., Western Research Labs. in Palo Alto, CA. He joined STMicroelectronics in Agrate Brianza, Italy, in 1995, where he is an Advanced CMOS Technology Technical Director and a Fellow of ST Technical Staff.
His current research interests include advanced CMOS technologies in 28nm FDSOI and FinFET, power optimization and integrity, reliability, innovative design methodologies for ASIC design, RF design for 5G applications. He was a work-package manager in several funded European Projects. Dr. Pandini has authored and coauthored more than fifty papers in international journals and conference proceedings, and during the academic years from 1998 to 2000, he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Brescia. He served on the program committee of several premiere international conferences, among which DAC, DATE, ICCD, ESSDERC, and EMC-COMPO, and he is a TPC co-chair of ESSDERC/ESSCIR 2022. Dr. Pandini received the ST Corporate STAR 2008 Gold Award for leading the excellence team in EMC-aware design, and the STAR 2020 Gold Award for an innovative design in 7nm FinFET.
Since June 2015, Dr. Pandini is the Chairman of the ST Italy Technical Staff Steering Committee.
Among his other interests, Dr. Pandini is a Certified Financial Technician of IFTA (International Federation of Technical Analysts), holds the Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designation from the CMT Association, and he is a Professional Member of SIAT (Societa’ Italiana Analisi Tecnica). In 2021 Dr. Pandini was the recipient of the prestigious XII SIAT Technical Analyst Award in the Open category.
He served as Volunteer at Universal Exhibition Expo2015 – Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life - in Milano, Italy.

 
Roberto PAOLETTI - Prima Electro S.p.A.

I graduated in Electronic Engineering, summa cum laude at University of Genoa in 1991, with a thesis on LiNbO3 laser modeling. I got the Doctorate in Electronics (PhD) at Politecnico of Turin, in 1994, dealing with design, simulation and characterization of semiconductor lasers for advanced telecommunication systems. In 1995 I Joined CSELT, Centro Studi E Laboratori in Telecomunicazioni (the corporate research center of Telecom Italia): I was responsible for the semiconductor laser characterization lab, and I continued working in design, modeling and high frequency characterizations of semiconductor lasers. In 2000 the Torino team joined the Agilent Technologies Semiconductor Product Group (Spin Off of Hewlett Packard). In the new position I was the project leader of some R&D projects for high speed uncooled laser (enabling also the first in the market Agilent Xenpak 10Gb/s Ethernet transceiver) and medium and wide tunable lasers for metro networks. In 2005 SPG became an independent company named Avago Technologies. In the new Torino organization I became manager of an optoelectronic team, owning responsibility of a global team for volume testing, reliability and R&D development of III-V edge emitter lasers. Starting from R&D background, from the Agilent days to the Avago organization I progressively developed new production skills, focusing on the design for manufacturing, device engineering and long term reliability.
I am now responsible for the Laser Diode Fab of Convergent Photonics in the Prima Electro Organization, development and manufacturing site of high power diode laser for industrial applications.
I am author and co-author of more than 50 publications on Journals and International Conference Proceedings, I am co-author of a semiconductor laser book, and I currently hold 12 active patents. I am a member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) since 1996.

 
Marco PAVONE - Nvidia

Director of Autonomous Vehicle Research at NVIDIA.

His main research interests are in the development of methodologies for the analysis, design, and control of autonomous systems, with an emphasis on self-driving cars, autonomous aerospace vehicles, and future mobility systems.
He is currently on partial leave from Stanford University, where he is an Associate Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics. At Stanford, he is also the Director of the Autonomous Systems Laboratory and Co-Director of the Center for Automotive Research at Stanford.
He received a Ph.D. degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2010. He is a recipient of a number of awards, including a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers from President Barack Obama, an Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award, a National Science Foundation Early Career (CAREER) Award, a NASA Early Career Faculty Award, and an Early-Career Spotlight Award from the Robotics Science and Systems Foundation. He was identified by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) as one of America's 20 most highly promising investigators under the age of 40.
He is currently serving as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Control Systems Magazine.

Dario ROSSI - Huawei

I am a Chief Expert at Huawei, leading a team of researchers using machine learning and artificial intelligence to solve hard networking problems.
I received my Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) from UPMC (2010), my PhD (2005) and MSc (2001) degrees from Politecnico di Torino.
Before joining Huawei in 2018, I occupied a Chair Professor (2016-2018), Full Professor (2012-2016) and Associate Professor (2006-2012) positions at the Computer Science and Networking department of Telecom ParisTech as well as a Full Professor (2012-2019) position at the LIX department of Ecole Polytechnique.
Prior to that, I worked with the Telecommunication Network Group of the Electrical Engineering department at Politecnico di Torino (2001-2006). Between september 2003 and august 2004, I held a Visiting Researcher position in the Computer Science division at University of California, Berkeley.
I am very passionate in my work and always open for new challenges. Currently I put my passion at work on research interests such as Machine learning, Internet traffic measurement, and high speed all-sofware networking. Formerly I also worked on congestion control, Information centric networks, green networking, peer-2-peer networks, traffic engineering vehicular networks. To summarize my achievements in these last few years, I have coauthored 15+ patents and 200+ papers in leading conferences (including IEEE INFOCOM, ACM SIGCOMM, ACM CoNEXT and ACM IMC) and journals (including IEEE JSAC, ACM/IEEE TON, ACM CCR, IEEE TMM).

Paola SUNNA - EBU Technology & Innovation

Paola Sunna joined the Centre for Research & Technology  Innovation of RAI, the Italian public broadcaster, in 1997 after getting her degree in Electronic Engineering at Politecnico of Torino.
She has worked on a wide variety of video projects over the years spent at RAI, including: image processing, video coding, next generation video formats, multimodal user-interfaces,
hybrid broadcast and broadband middleware, second screens apps, standards (DVB, MPEG, etc.) and 3D computer graphics. She got an MBA in 2005. In March 2017, she moved to the EBU Technology and Innovation Department (tech.ebu.ch) as Senior Project Manager. At the EBU  she was involved in activities related to VR (Virtual reality)/AR (Augmented Reality) and NGA (Next Generation Audio) for personalized sound experiences. Currently she is focusing on virtual productions, newsroom workflows, CG (Computer Graphics) animation pipelines and 5G for professional content production. She is also involved in different standardization activities.

Coordinating development activities with product divisions (MEMS, Microcontrollers, Power), central labs (Development, R&D), and regional organization (America region, Support and Marketing). Andrea Vitali joined STMicroelectronics in 2000 as part of the system R&D team.
Currently, Vitali is driving marketing and support local customers in the field of MEMS sensors and Internet of Things. From 2008 to 2012 he worked in the field of bioelectronics/biomedical field, exploiting micro-electro-mechanical-silicon sensors, designing wearable electronics to detect biologic signals and developing algorithms to extract significant biological parameters. Prior to that, he worked on image compression, video coding, robust source and joint source/channel coding, adaptive multimedia play-out, metadata for multimedia signals, graphical interfaces.
Training and teaching has been important for Vitali. From 2004-2012 he was professor at Bergamo University, teaching MicroElectronics and from 2007-2010 he was also a professor at the University of Milan teaching MultiMedia Information Coding.
Mr. Vitali holds a Masters in Electronics Engineering at Polytechnic of Milan in 1998. He has published several papers and holds several patents granted in Europe and the United States.

 
Luca ZAI - Eldor Corporation S.p.A.

Luca Zai is Chief Technology Officer at ELDOR Corporation.
His area of responsibility encompasses the portfolio of E-Mobility solutions from early stage ideation, from business and technical perspective, to the start of development for mass production. In his capacity Luca oversees R&D Centers, internal and collaborative innovation initiatives, product and technology strategy, advanced systems engineering and development of archetypes for novel e-powertrain systems.
He is co-author of several patent families in the field. In his career in the automotive industry Luca held various positions in consulting and manufacturing companies, working on a range of vehicle systems and components in liaison with OEMs and first-tier suppliers worldwide.
His expertise developed particularly in the areas of systems engineering, electric-hybrid vehicles and technology & strategic management. Luca holds an MSc in Automotive Engineering from Politecnico di Torino and an MBA from Alliance Manchester Business School.
