Physical layer design of optical communication systems: coherently detected systems, digital signal processing techniques for advanced modulation formats, digital nonlinearity mitigation, Nyquist-WDM for Terabit Super-channel implementation. Modelling and simulation of non-linear fiber propagation, development of algorithms for computer simulation of fiber propagation. Availabiliy of a state-of-the-art simulation cluster based on GPU for numerical analysis of system performance. Capability to perform optical system experiments over long-distances using in-line setups and recirculating loops.
