Sustainable networking

The research group focuses on the sustainability of communication infrastructures, and in particular on technologies, solutions and mechanisms to reduce carbon emissions due to communication infrastructures that include radio access networks and data centers. Sustainability is targeted by jointly considering power supply systems based on renewable energy sources and by properly operating the networks.

Among the activities, the group works on: machine learning techniques to predict energy generation and demand for service, optimal allocation of energy and communication resources, strategies for sustainable network operation, energy-efficient AI, methodologies to estimate consumption and emissions of AI solutions.
Besides sustainability, the group works also on the design of solutions to make the infrastructure resilient with respect to power outages.
