IEEE AESS Italy Chapter - Awards for Best PhD Theses
IEEE AESS Italy Chapter - Awards for Best PhD Theses
The Italian chapter of IEEE Aerospace and Electronics Systems Society (AESS) awarded the Best PhD Thesis prize to Andrea Nardin, for his PhD thesis entitled "Innovative Signal Processing Solutions for Next-Generation Satellite Navigation Systems".
The thesis was completed in fulfillment of the PhD in Electrical, Electronics, and Communications Engineering program (Ciclo XXXV) at Politecnico di Torino.
It has been awarded by the IEEE Italy Chapter of the Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS), which launched a national competition to honor the three best PhD theses related to aerospace and electronic systems, defended in the past year. A specialized commission composed of members of the IEEE Italy Chapter evaluated the submissions.
This award-winning dissertation explores innovative prospects for future satellite navigation systems, proposing solutions at the system, signal, and user levels, while addressing emerging constraints.
The thesis presents a novel method for scheduling optical inter-satellite links (OISLs) based on minimum spanning trees, an input optimization scheme for multicarrier multiplexing algorithms, and a generalized paradigm for multichannel processing in the context of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). Furthermore, a novel crowdsourced approach for GNSS jamming mitigation is proposed, utilizing physics-based learning to adaptively localize jammers with greater accuracy than traditional methods. Overall, significant contributions are made to advance the reliability, efficiency, and robustness of current and next-generation satellite navigation systems.
