Tagless indoor person localization and identification

Research on long-range capacitive sensors (and data fusion with other sensors) for tagless localization and identification of persons indoors.

IoT applications in fields like assisted living, security and safety need small, cheap, easy to install means for person localization and identification indoors, without requiring them to wear tags or interact otherwise with the system.

We are investigating a novel kind of capacitive sensors with ranges 10–20 times their diagonal size can satisfy well these requirements. They may also complement well other types of sensors (e.g., infrared) for robust data fusion processing.

Person identification is explored using multi-frequency capacitance measurement and other post-processing techniques, which include very low power machine learning on board the sensors.
