Laboratory of Engineering of Neuromuscular System

The mission of the Laboratory for Engineering of the Neuromuscular System (LISiN) is the non invasive investigation of control mechanisms, changes of performance and fatigue of muscles through the analysis of force, movement and electromyographic (EMG) signals. This is a challenging task in biomedical engineering and neurophysiology addressed through the study of voluntary and electrically elicited muscle contractions, the use of electrode arrays and other quantitative approaches. Applications concern ergonomics, rehabilitation, sport, occupational and space medicine.

This goal implies:

  1. the development of methods, instrumentations and signal processing techniques to detect, process and understand the information collected and
  2. the dissemination and transfer of results to the health delivery system and small enterprises.

LISiN’s research is supported by national and international institutions and is carried out in collaboration with other academic groups throughout the world.
