Electromagnetic characterization of materials

The constitutive parameters (permittivity and permeability) are used to characterize materials in electromagnetics. The determination of these parameters is a very important topic due to its wide range of applications (microwave devices, material testing, and design of multilayer absorbers).

Depending on frequency, shape of sample, and range of losses, an appropriate material measurement technique should be chosen. Among the various techniques for material characterizations, the laboratory is equipped to perform measurements in rectangular waveguide from 2 GHz to 12 GHz, or with an open-ended coaxial probe from 200 MHz to 20 GHz.
