Parkinson’s disease patients meet researchers: the locomotion after Deep Brain Stimulation

A science dissemination event was organized for Parkinson Disease (PD) patients and their families on Saturday, October 21th at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications (DET) of Politecnico di Torino (POLITO). In the last 5 years, PD patients and their caregivers voluntarily participated to a study aimed at revealing the effects of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) on locomotion. The study was conducted at the Motion Analysis Laboratory of PolitoBIOMedLab. The preliminary results obtained by the collaboration between the POLITO research team (Prof. Valentina Agostini, Dr. Marco Ghislieri, and Prof. Marco Knaflitz) and the UNITO research team (Prof. Michele Lanotte, and Dr. Laura Rizzi) highlighted the effectiveness of DBS neurosurgery in improving the motor performance of PD patients.
