Departmental Strategic Plan

The Department of Electronics and Telecommunications (DET) coordinates fundamental and applied research, training and technology transfer in the cultural area of Information and Communication Technologies - ICT, with particular attention to the following areas of expertise:

  • analysis, processing, coding, and machine learning for signals and images;
  • architectures, systems, devices;
  • electrical, electronic, and photonic circuits;
  • automatic controls, robotics, mechatronics;
  • bioengineering;
  • electromagnetic fields and propagation;
  • electrical and electronic measurements;
  • electronic nanotechnologies;
  • communication systems and networks;
  • reti di calcolatori, fotoniche e per data center;
  • computer networks, photonic networks, and data centers;
  • intelligent or data-driven services and applications.

DET is characterized by a strong commitment to multidisciplinary research that allows  developing innovative solutions both in the fields directly connected to the ICT world, such as 5G and beyond 5G networks, Internet of Things, Machine and Deep Learning, Data Science and Data-driven approaches, ICT security, and in application domains where the use of ICT technologies is becoming crucial to pursue the digital revolution, such as clean energy, environment and climate change, health and wellness, transport, aerospace, and Industry 4.0.

In 2019, at the request of the University, the DET took steps to draw up a Departmental Strategic Plan, a document that formalizes and deepens the issues already under discussion within the Strategy Commission that has been active for several years within the Department.
