Biography

Vittorio Curri received his Laurea degree cum laude in Electrical Engineering and his PhD in Optical Communications from the Politecnico di Torino (PoliTo), Turin, Italy, in 1995 and 1999, respectively. He currently holds the position of Full Professor in Optical Communications and Networking and is a Founder Member of the OptCom Group and PhotonLab at PoliTo. He has also served as a Visiting Researcher at Stanford University and UCSB. Prof. Curri is an integral part of the team responsible for developing transmission models of lightpaths as Gaussian Noise channels. He is a strong advocate for the utilization of multiband transmission in single-mode fibers. His research activities include analyzing the physical layer's impact on networking for planning and control of open and disaggregated optical networks, employing AI techniques. He serves as the Scientific Chair of the GNPy open-source project within the TIP consortium. With over 400 scientific publications to his name, Prof. Curri has an outstanding bibliometric record. He has been actively involved in numerous projects funded by various companies and the European Union, serving as the Principal Investigator. Throughout his career, he has supervised and mentored 25 PhD students and several post-doctoral researchers. Additionally, he has served as a Guest Editor for Special Issues in the Journal of Optical Communications and Networking (JOCN) and the Journal of Lightwave Technology (JLT). He holds memberships in Technical Program Committees (TPCs) of conferences such as ICTON, NetSoft, ANTS, APC-Networks, and ACP. Dr. Curri has also been invited as a keynote and tutorial speaker at major IEEE and OPTICA conferences.
