VLSI architecture for multimedia applications

This activity deals with VLSI design for modern and future multimedia systems, which grant excellent performance at the expense of a high computational complexity; as a consequence, dedicated hardware implementations are often required to match cost and performance constraints. The activity particularly addresses the following application fields: image processing (JPEG2000 compression), signal analysis and extraction of significant features (wavelets, Mumford-Shah), video processing (AVC-H264), motion detection, joint source and channel coding (concatenated convolutional and arithmetic codes).

On this topic have been published 7 articles in international reviews and 30 papers have been presented to various conferences.
