Time domain reflectometry (TDR)
This activity addresses the estimation of the permittivity of dielectric samples and the estimation of the impedance of TEM guiding structures from their TDR responses.
These estimation problems are relevant to soil science measurements and electronic packaging applications.
In this activity, the inversion of the scattering responses is studied via both direct and parametric methods, with the aim of pointing out properties that facilitate and improve the estimation.
New relations between the attenuation of dielectric samples and the condition of the inversion problem have been found, along with approximate closed form expressions that help the estimation of the parameters in the case of Debye's dielectrics.
