This activity has several years of history in the RSG. It takes different branches of the science: physics of the atmosphere for what concerns the matches between models and real world, the electronic design of the radar systems for what concerns the implementation of the specific parts of models involving directly the radar system hardware and the implementation linked to the optimization of the algorithms for what concerns the post-processing. The RSG has been involved in European Projects through VOLTAIRE during 2002 – 2004 and FORALPS during 2006 – 2007 and actually is involved in activities related to the meteo-aid for the airports through the AWIS Project.

Meteorological data obtained through the RSG prototypal micro radar network (MicroRadarNet) is adopted to refine calibration and assessment techniques based on the interpretation of other nearby data sources like C band radars and a number of available rain gauges.
