Nonstationary signals and systems in the time-frequency domain
A new approach has been developed to study dynamical systems in the time-frequency domain. By transforming the system in the time-frequency phase-space, the method allows a new and deeper understanding of the behavior of the system.
In particular, it is possible to see how the system processes nonstationary input signals, that is signals whose frequencies change with time, and how it generates the corresponding nonstationary output signals. This cannot be achieved with classical frequency methods, which are ideally suited for the stationary case only. The proposed approach can be applied to both deterministic and random systems.
