MIMO communications

The goals of this activity can be summarized as follows:

  • to characterize the capacity behavior of MU-MIMO systems (uplink and downlink) for realistic channel models under varying degrees of channel state information at the transmitter taking into account both Gaussian code books and finite constellation;
  • to establish a framework for studying the tradeoffs between multiplexing, diversity, array, interference cancelling, and scheduling gains in the multi-user context;
  • to extend results on the asymptotic (in the number of antennas) capacity behavior of point-to-point MIMO links to the multi-user case by establishing asymptotic results in both the number of antennas and the number of users.
