Emilio Leonardi is Associate Professor in the Dipartimento di Elettronica at Politecnico di Torino.
He got a Dr.Ing degree in Electronics Engineering in 1991 (summa cum laude) and a Ph.D. in Telecommunications Engineering in 1995 both from Politecnico di Torino.
In 1995, he spent one year at the Computer Science Department of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), with Prof. M. Gerla , where he was involved in the Supercomputer-SuperNet (SSN) project, aimed at the design of a hierarchical network comprising an optical backbone that interconnects several high speed wormhole routed networks
In the Summer 1999 he visited the ``High-Speed Networks Research Group'', at Bell labs. - Lucent, where he participated to the design of efficient scheduling policies for high capacity input-queued switches.
During the Summer 2001 he visited Prof. Balaji Prabakhar , at Stanford University, EE Dept., where he investigated the performance of scheduling policies for input-queued switches.
At last, in summer 2003 he visited the IP group at SprintLabs , Burlingame CA, where he participated to the definition of efficient and accurate algorithms for the estimation of traffic matrices in IP backbone networks starting from link load measurements.
He has participated in several National and European projects such as IST-SONATA, IST DAVID, NoE ePhoton-1 and NoE Euro-FGI. He is also involved in several consulting and research project with private industries, including Lucent Technologies, British Telecom, Alcatel, IBM and TILAB, Microsoft Research.
He is the scientific coordinator of the European 7-th FP STREP project NAPA-WINE on P2P streaming applications, involving 11 European research institutions, operators and manufacturers.
He has co-authored over 200 papers published in leading international journals and presented in international conferences, all of them in the area of telecommunication networks.
Emilio Leonardi participated to the technical program committees of several conferences including IEEE Infocom 2000, 2007 and 2009 ACM MobiHoc 2007 and 2009 IEEE ICC 2005, 2006 and 2007, IEEE Globecom 2003 and 2004, IEEE WiOpt 2006 and 2007. He has been co-guest editor of the special issue on ``High-Performance Optical/Electronic Switches/Routers for High Speed Internet'' for the ``IEEE Journal on Selected Areas of Communications''.
He has been recipient of the best paper award at the following conferences:
- IEEE Globecom - High Speed Networks Symposium, 2002.
- IEEE High Performance Switching a Routing Symposium (HPSR), 2006.
- 14-th IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation of Computer and Telecommunication Systems (MASCOTS), 2006.
Emilio Leonardi is a senior member of IEEE.
