Micro&nano sensors: Molecular sensing

This research studies devices for the detection of small molecules. In particular, the research focuses on sensing molecules such as air pollutants and toxins (e.g., aflatoxin B1) through single-molecule devices.

Ab initio calculation is used to study the sensor-target chemophysical interaction. Simulation results are exploited to build compact sensor models.

Then, the performance improvement is studied to permit the realization of smart sensors and electronic noses. Experimental activities are exploited to fabricate devices and to support and validate the simulation results.

This research also studies the integration of molecular sensors to merge the innovative properties of organic molecules with the reliability, low cost, and accuracy of CMOS electronics.
